Washington state health officials say a wave epidemic is unlikely this fall and winter in Lynden and elsewhere. Isolated outbreaks may occur, but immunity from last season could blunt second waves. if needed, targeted quarantine and crowding limits may be used to protect business activity.
Local notes report Carl Markworth leaving for Blaine to work as a piledriver with A N D. Families, students from Lynden High join Melvin Bamford’s trip to Bellingham to view the fleet. Ranch sale, visits, school attendance, and pneumonia illness among Lynden residents are noted along with social dinners in Badger.
Mr and Mrs R Troost visited at Van Ry es home Wednesday evening. Many neighbors and relatives shared an evening with the Van Ry es, Troosts, and Vander Ploegs. Nellie Pearl born to Anton and family, Francis Pugh injured lip, and various visits noted around Bellingham and Seattle areas.
Miss Gertrude Imus began her duties as primary teacher in Lynden Public Schools on Monday. An enrollment of fifty nine pupils necessitated an additional teacher. The Lynden schools show larger size this year and the high school has risen in enrollment over the last two years. The Liberty’s exterior was brightened by manager Jacek Kauffman with new colorful lights at the ticket office and entrance arch. The Western Mercantile Company sold a De Laval Milking Machine to W. H. Waples. Mr and Mrs Cornelius Buizer and Nick Haveman returned Friday from a Idaho auto trip. Mr and Mrs Henry Crow welcomed a ten pound girl born September 21.
The Klatawa Club gathered Friday night at the home of Miss Martha Knittle for a social meeting.
Mr and Mrs D Van Rossum returned last week from Portland Oregon where they visited friends and toured several sites during their trip.
Lynden residents will vote on Tuesday October 14 to issue a $5 000 bond for the city share of paving West Main and Fifth Street. The city council approved the election and improvement ordinance. polling in precinct two is at Lynden Pioneer Realty Company. Abutting property owners sign the petition and will pay about $50 per block per 50 feet with ten years to pay.
Stockholders favor selling the Lynden Creamery to the Whatcom County Dairyman's Association by a 50 to 32 vote at Hawleys Hall. The acquisition would give the dairy group control of a growing business and the Lynden dairy field, with interest from Sumas Nooksack and Everson competing for the plant.
Lynden Creamery directors announce the election of J T Zylstra as manager to succeed Herman Elenbaas. Frank Lopas was considered but Zylstra was appointed. The new manager will take office on Wednesday October 1 and currently serves as city treasurer and has led the Farmers Mercantile Company office for years.
The Lynden Motor Company purchased the 75 foot lot adjoining its Front Street garage to expand for growing business. The former Tribune building, occupied by the Birdwell family due to a local housing shortage, will host Lynden’s addition next year after George Taylor sold the property for $1,100.
A mass meeting of the Triple Alliance will be held at Hoffman Hall in Delta Township on Friday evening, Oct. 3, at eight o'clock. The event seeks township organization and the election of a temporary Precinct Committee men. All men and women voters are invited.
The Lynden Canning Club with thirteen members canned 986 quarts of mats fruits vegetables soups and jellies led by Anna Knutzen with 416 quarts. Other members include Evelyn Vander Yacht Alma Booman Ruth Burns Marjory Packard Gayle Walsion Marjory De Line Charles Sprague Elmer Swenson Edward Kamm Jessica De Line Grayce Brown Vergie Clark and leader Calla Van Syckle.
T Plette, disabled for weeks by a leg injury from an auto crash, expects to leave next week for his home in Pella Iowa. He is staying at the John Rutgers residence.
In the absence of R. B. Le Cocqq, S. H. Lewis and Frank Le Cocq will act as deputy city clerks next week and handle all registration duties while he is out of the city.
The Reformed Church on Grover Street has been redecorated The Ladies Aid furnished new carpets and the Christian Endeavor Society donated new lights.
The past week at the Fair Grounds featured extensive efforts by fair officials and assistants to ensure a successful event. It lists officers including Henry Shagren president E Edson vice president P M Serrurier treasurer George M Waples secretary and other directors and department superintendents across animals produce and crafts with F E Knapp named reception committee chair.
A large Lynden delegation will attend the State University at Seattle this year. Lynden boys Cecil Jamieson Albert Booman Floyd Rathbone Douglas Slade and Charles Kamm will study Business Administration. George Frick begins a periodical course Gale Edson continues in Pharmacy Andrew Nyman enters Engineering Marian Bay and Frances Knapp stay in Liberal Arts. Marion Le Cocq John Le Cocq go to Oregon Eugene premedical. Herbin Benson to Pullman for commercial studies.
The Liberty theater charged only 25 cents for the first appearance of The Heart of Humanity eight reel masterpiece in Lynden marking the lowest admission on record. Yankee Doodle in Berlin comes to the Liberty a week from Saturday. The Romance of Bellingham filmed at the county seat comes to Lynden on Oct. 9, with Mickey and The Shepherd of the Hills scheduled for later dates.
The Murphy-Beyer Automobile Company of Bellingham reports sales of two new cars to Lynden residents in the past two weeks. Dr D Mulder bought a Mitchell Six and C Noteboom purchased a Grant Six. Lynden Motor Company shows four cars on display at the Fair, including Oakland and Chevrolet models. The article also notes a head injury to a young daughter of Mr and Mrs Richard Zylstra from a hatchet accident and visits by Ethel Storrey and Bessie Murchiel from Bellingham.
The Rev. H. K. Palma will preach in Seattle Sunday. Clara Schuyleman of Bellingham visited Lynden this week.
The Whatcom County Victory Fair at Lynden opens with daily aeroplane flights and a full lineup for Friday and Saturday. Harmony and Meridian high schools plan afternoon baseball, Blaine vs Ferndale kickoff football, and a grand parade of exhibits including war relics, cattle shows, and a milkers contest with cash prize.

Lynden public schools will be closed all day Thursday and Friday to allow pupils to attend the Whatcom County Fair. County schools close Friday for the fair, and Lynden stores will close Friday afternoon following their Fair Week custom.
Mr and Mrs J O Anderson of Sumas and Mr and Mrs George Elliott of Seattle visited the Jacobson and Booman homes Sunday.
