Lynden Men Face Army Examining Board This Week

Lynden district men are called to the Bellingham examiners as the county board passes on 450 more recruits by Saturday, lifting total examined to about 900 with 49 already certified for service. Names from Lynden and nearby areas include Nymeyer Noteboom Dyksterhuis Miller and many others listed as to be examined Friday.

Lynden W. C. Students And Friends Picnic At Whatcom Falls Park

Lynden and Whatcom Falls Park host the W. S. C. picnic and salmon bake at ten o'clock Sunday morning. Lake Whatcom trolley offers transport past the park for Washington State College attendees. Schmidt Estate Auction in Lynden to Sell Front Street Properties

Lynden 1918 Budget Shows Lower Expenses and Debt Levy

The Lynden Washington town budget for 1918 lowers expenses by about $100 from this year due to reduced interest on bonds. Dairymen to Consider Fund Plan for Condensery

Whatcom County dairymen will hold a special meeting Saturday at 10 a m in Ferndale to discuss raising 200000 for a condensery or other means to secure returns for milk. Skagit dairymen recently approved similar funding and Snohomish and Skagit reps will share progress. Raw milk price rose to 2.60 per hundred, a regional high.

Fair Will Feature Farming Lectures

Whatcom County Fair in Lynden September 25 to 29 will host more demonstrations and short courses for farmers and poultrymen than ever. Dr. W F Garrett from the State Department of Agriculture will lecture daily on Diseases of Cattle and answer dairy farmer questions. A tuberculosis demonstration by slaughtering a diseased cow is planned. State College experts will offer dairy pointers, with a possible visit by E F Benson. Poultry expert George Shoup from the Western Washington Experiment Station will assist visitors. County agriculturalist H B Carroll Jr will be on site to aid farmers and organize new features.

Lynden Men Enticed to Enlist in U S Naval Militia Camp

Lynden district men may join the Naval Militia at the U S Naval Training Station in Seattle. Applicants undergo physical exam, then active service if passed. Fred Rockey and John Bay are already at the camp. Transportation is not provided, but Seattle arrival can align with exam day. About 1,000 men had trained within six weeks.

William McDonnell moved his restaurant Saturday two doors east and renamed it Lynden Cafe. The new quarters were remodeled especially for the business and finished attractively.

Local People's Council To Hold Peace Meeting At Hawley's Hall

A mass meeting at Hawley's Hall Saturday at 8 pm under the Peoples' Council for Peace and Democracy will feature Emil Herman of Everett speaking on the Origin Organization Scope and Purpose of the People's Council of America. Admission is free and all are invited.

Population figures rise in 1917 Lynden directory

The 1917 Whatcom County Directory by R L Polk reports Lynden population 1650 up from 1575 in 1916. Sumas 1400, Ferndale 1370, Everson 650, Nooksack 400, Custer 350. Blaine listed at 5000, with 16 pages of Blaine names and ten for Lynden.
