The Whatcom County Fair closed Saturday night after drawing over 20 000 attendees marking the largest gate in history. Weather was favorable and exhibits and contests ran smoothly led by President M Vander Griend and Secretary George Waples. New Election Law Requires Three Separate Ballots

Lynden Painter Falls From Ladder in Auto Collision
L. C. Cook, owner of Lynden Paint and Wall-Paper Co., was injured Tuesday when a ladder he stood on to paint a sign at the Lynden Motor Company building toppled as Ike Elenbaas backed a Ford from the garage. Cook suffered a head cut and hip and wrist injuries after hitting a sign and the car roof before sliding to the pavement. The fall was cushioned by a double break.

Lynden Plans 1922 Tax Cut Across City and School
Lynden council set the 1922 city levy at 19 mills, down one from last year, reducing the budget by 1000 dollars. The school levy drops to 18 mills from 20, with 10 mills legally authorized, a 7 mill special levy, and a one mill Smiths Wigneser agricultural levy. Overall taxes fall about four mills due to lower state and county levies.

Lynden Sumas road opens in November with full paving
The Lynden Sumas roadway contract reached completion this week enabling opening in early November. Nine miles of paving were finished with the main road done Friday. County officials and contractors celebrated with a chicken dinner at the cookhouse and praised the rapid progress. The new paved route provides Lynden a direct outlet to every county town and shortens travel to Bellingham via the Lynden route to Sumas.
