Lynden Chautauqua Tickets Go On Sale Next Thursday

Tickets for Lynden's Chautauqua go on sale Thursday morning. Mark Hammond reports season passes cost 2.50 plus tax and admit holders to 26 attractions during July 7 to 14. Alfalfa Hay Sells for 20 Dollars a Ton in Yakima

P M Serruzier reports alfalfa hay selling at 20 dollars a ton in Yakima fields. He attended a bankers convention and believes hay prices will rise sharply in Lynden this fall based on inquiries and market observations.

Delta and Sunshine Community News Briefs in Adel phia

Dr. Immaneus Schmidt from Adel phia College lectured at the Baptist church Monday evening. An animal club formed at Delta on Wednesday. Officeholders include Thelma Helgath president Harold Kellar vice president Alice Vander Mey secretary Lana Telegenhoff and Alice Larson program committee. Ladies Aid met at Mrs C P Nelsons home Thursday afternoon. A new silo is being erected by Mr Hilbert Kok. A party of locals autoed to Vancouver Sunday. Several residents autoed to LaConner Monday. Mrs W H Jackman attended the W C T U convention in Bellingham Tuesday through Friday. Mrs John Bierlink to St Luke’s hospital for appendicitis. The First Reformed church youth held a farewell party for Mr Fred De Hoogh Tuesday. Ice cream cake and cookies served. Mrs H Vander Mey hosted Mr and Mrs H Zuidersma of Lynden for dinner Thursday. A War Savings Stamp meeting is set for Friday June 28 at 8 o’clock at the schoolhouse.

Joe Elenbaas of Lynden is now at the firing line with the United States army near the Switzerland line in France. He is the only Lynden boy reported at that front this week, according to local word.

Funeral Services for Former Wiser Lake Man Held

Funeral services were held in Lynden for Elijah Maupin who died in Bellingham this week. Maupin, a Seventh Day Adventist, is survived by a widow, three sons and two daughters. The week’s events included church and community notices and a high school dance club meeting.

Proclamation Calls Linden Citizens to National War Savings Day

Mayor I E Edson of Linden urges all residents to observe National War Savings Day on June 28. Citizens should attend meetings and pledge to buy War Savings Stamps, showing loyalty and patriotism while saving labor and materials and avoiding competition with the Government.

Lynden Red Cross funds nearly exhausted report

June 1 treasury shows only 36.76 left as Lynden Red Cross chapter faces low funds. May spending totaled 197.18 with small income from dues sales and subscriptions. The chapter will receive a War Chest share soon while May memberships and new members from Northwood Auxiliary and Glendale are listed.

Appeal for music for soldiers at Camp Lewis

J A Van Pelt appeals for used or new phonograph records and sheet music to cheer soldiers at Camp Lewis. Many records wear out quickly due to constant use, and quarantine crowds 200 to 2000 men, creating an urgent need for new selections. Lynden residents can donate via Miss Bessie Biehler or the Red Cross. A marriage license was issued in Bellingham to Norman F Hickey and Maude G Leach.

Lynden urged to raise War Savings total next Friday

C F Nolte head of the Whatcom County War Savings Drive urges Lynden residents to back National War Savings Day on June 28 by pledging to buy War Savings Stamps. He notes the goal to raise $60,000 in the Lynden district and pressures every person to contribute $20 worth of stamps.

United States Government asks Lynden and district to subscribe 60000 in War Savings Stamps on National War Savings Day June 28. Sixteen thousand dollars already pledged, leaving 44000 to raise at district meetings starting eight o clock at schoolhouses. Meetings will be in Lynden High School and other district schools with pledges recorded for government use.

Gale Edson Heads to France After Year of Training

Gale Edson of Lynden after nearly a year of training with a university ambulance division in Allentown Pennsylvania left for France last week. He enlisted soon after war was declared but his company was held in the United States.

Girls Society Social At I O O F Hall This Week

The girls society of the Reform Church will host a Congregational Social Friday evening at eight o clock in the I O O F hall. An interesting program is planned.
