Two-Burro Wagon Heads to California in 1922

Cyrus Smith, who wintered near the A. E. Henry place, set out Thursday with his two burro wagon for California. He planned to cover about 100 miles weekly, reaching Cornwall Park by Thursday evening and being near Arlington by Sunday.

Government efforts to treat Roy Clarke in Alaska

Roy Clarke of Lynden was seriously injured at Kodiak Alaska when a chain broke during land clearing on a government experiment station farm. The government has had five doctors examine him and attempted to arrange a specialist beyond Seward. Clarke notes the high cost and a consult with Dr Georgeson who will join the Alameda in arranging further care.

Lynden to Get New Power Station

Puget Sound Light and Power began erecting a new sub station in Lynden to supply Nooksack and Everson districts with electricity. The old Front Street station is moved. a 6600 volt 3 phase line runs from Pleasant Ridge road to Everson. After Sumas Electric plant sale, Lynden will serve southern territory and may hire another lineman.

Road to Portland Mostly Paved with Small Gap

William Eddy and Orrin Hagen report a 1500 mile survey through eastern Washington finding Lynden to Portland route via Kalama nearly paved with only a three mile gap and a short Chuckanut Drive segment. They praise the Spokane path via Snoqualmie Pass as in excellent condition and recommend the Kalama route to avoid 15 miles of detours.

His daughter Lydia Bloomquist, born 1874 in South Dakota, moved to Alberta and back to Ferndale, while granddaughter Edna Nelson, born 1896, later settled in Alberta where Lois June Nelson, the great grandchild, was born in 1919.

Farm owner ends life at wife's grave in Lynden cemetery

Stephen B. Day sold his Northwood farm Monday and left a farewell note for his daughters before walking at night with a rifle to his wife’s grave in Lynden cemetery. His body was found Tuesday morning by Leonard Lowrey, who had bought the farm, after the note directed him to the grave. Day, 70, had lived in the Northwood district 13 years and is survived by two daughters Venia Tray of Bellingham and Mrs. McNally. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Knapp’s Parlors conducted by Rev. E. C. Grimes.

Lynden Churches to Hold Union Summer Services

Lynden Girl Tops County In State Examinations

Margaret Shagren of Lynden led Whatcom County eighth graders in scholarship at the state exams with the top average. County superintendent Mrs. Jennie Robin announced the results along with a list of district leaders and several schools including Lynden, Glendale, Clearbrook Nooksack, Meridian and Lynden Christian School with multiple high achievers.
