A general warning is issued to property owners and lessees in Whatcom County to destroy Canadian thistles before seeding. Noncompliance may lead to fines, legal action, and road supervisors enforcing control with costs charged to the property in next year’s taxes. Evidence from Lynden shows mixed cattle acceptance of the weed.
Residents and visitors frequent Lynden and Bellingham homes this week. Notable events include births, weddings, illnesses, and social gatherings. The W C T U held a flower mission, and multiple families hosted guests from nearby towns and states.
J F Gehrman of Lynden has bought W O New's share in Ferndale Creamery and now runs the plant solo. The dissolution cited insufficient returns for two. Violin pupils of Mrs. Charlotte Heun showcased a varied program Friday evening in Jamieson’s Hall. The event featured Janet Gilmore Vanessa Heder Mildred Waples and Mazila King among others with a fourteen member orchestra closing with Tabor’s National Fantasie.
Frank O'Neil a Lynden native visits his brother Ed O'Neil accompanied by his son during a family reunion and travel.
Orade were followed by ice cream donated by Mr. Lusk as the Mr Sunday school class outing to Chuckanut beach occurred Thursday evening with chaperones Mr and Mrs Austin. Mrs Julian Parker visited the Macaulay home in Deming. Miss Deeg of Harmony visited the Sines home. Recent rains damaged crops including cherry and grain. G H Griffith reported cherry crop loss valued at several hundred dollars.
The Lynden berry field attracts many pickers drawn by a record crop and high earnings this season. The Lynden Cannery processes the fruit placed in barrels for shipping as rain delays ease and warm weather spurs a rush. Pickers include visitors from across the Sound, with Seattle professionals taking vacations in Lynden fields.
North Prairie residents report visits among families including Van Wyhe Ver Duin Kloske Bartelds and De Graff households. Social events feature Gerrit De Graff birthday at home and Whatsoever Club meetings with upcoming gathering at Mrs Dan Vander Meer on August 3. Mrs P A Clarke returned from Minnesota and Montana after a month away.
Walter Elder began a month long visit traveling through Minnesota Iowa and Missouri on Wednesday afternoon He plans to meet Mrs Elder in St Paul B P Shoemaker has returned to the soldiers home at Port Orchard

J B Gate sold his barber shop to M D Quackenbush and Wilbur Gill. A surprise party honored Jacob and Lizzie Zylska with many friends attending. Charles Schuyler purchased a twenty five foot lot on Front Street opposite Lynden Department Store. Nellie Collins from Eveson visiting relatives. Mrs Fred Harrison and Beatrice Henry left for Seattle for a visit of a few weeks.
Local notes list guests and visitors in Ferndale from British Columbia and Washington. Names include Mrs Ernest Sather of Celebrook, B C. Mr and Mrs Henry Campbell. families from Port Angeles and Victoria. and several residents visiting Birch Bay Camp Crow’s Nest.
The Rev. H. De Witt of Oak Harbor will spend two weeks in Lynden at J. Meenk's home. He will conduct Reformed Church services on Grover Street both morning and afternoon and lead the congregational meeting Monday when a pastor will be called to fill the vacancy.
The council will meet Friday at 7 o clock instead of the previously planned time to allow members a chance to attend the opening Chan Utauqua program.
Lynden prepares for Chautauqua Week with over five hundred season tickets sold and 473 reported by Wednesday night committee, fewer than one hundred at 2.50. stores close afternoons for events, a multi day program features Shakespeare Comus Players and performances by the International Operatic Company and New York Marine Band among others.
