The Lynden Athletic Association postpones its January meeting to Friday evening January 13 at 8 in City Hall. Citizens and businessmen are urged to join with a $2.50 annual fee to fund the basketball and baseball programs and bolster a 1922 season.
Lynden Athletic Association prepares for a high speed clash with the Alaska Business College quintet at Lynden High School gym on Thursday January 19. Coaches Meurer and Slade push players through stiff workouts as Lynden aims for a Whatcom County championship step. harmony game results and local scheduling notes follow with Lynden girls defeating Blaine 24 to 9 under coach Mrs. W A Fisher.
A large stockholders meeting at Peoples State Bank of Lynden re-elected the board of directors: D. W. Bender, Nels Jacobson, Henry Shagren, J. W. Stearns, H. J. Kok, J. T. Zylstra and P. J. Van Hemnert. The M E Church Sunday School Board met at W T Roberts home Monday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Will Meurer and children visited the W A Reid home Friday. Gerrit Noteboom, Jake De Hoog, and Gerrit Velcke went to Bellingham Monday. Frank Theel visited Everson Monday. The Meenk child is ill this week. The Meurer party, with Mrs Reid and Mr Reid, went to Bellingham Sunday to see The Little Minister. A party at the P Dykstra home Wednesday honored Oscar Dykstra with games and refreshments for a long list of friends including the Meenk, Noteboom, Brune, Crosier, Headrick, Woudenberg, Fullnes, Shumway, Hagen, and Dykstra families.
An executive committee to raise Whatcom County's $1,000 quota for the Woodrow Wilson Foundation has been named by N. C. Davenport. The campaign opens January 16 as part of a national goal of $1,000,000. Lynden district members include S. B. Day J. W. Austin B. W. Loring and Charles Galbraith.
Funeral services were held Friday at the Lynden Methodist Church for John W. Tremain born July 5, 1849 in Henry Illinois. Tremain died January 4 after months of illness and is survived by his wife Agnes two sons John W and Elzie R two daughters Mrs Roy Mutchler and Mrs Elmer Lund and two brothers. Burial followed in Lynden cemetery.
The Pythian Sisters at the I O O F Hall installed officers for the new year led by Past Chief Mrs B V Mounter and Most Excellent Chief Mrs Pearl Mock. Other officers named include Excellent Senior Mrs Boysen Excellent Junior Mrs N Boerhave Manager Mrs Lillian Baldwin Protector Mrs Myrtella Tremain Guard Mrs Clara Robertson Mistress of Finance Miss Ada Baldwin Mistress of Records and Correspondence Mrs Florence Waples.
The Rebekahs held an installation of officers at the I O O F hall on Saturday night. Noble Grand Mrs. Rosa Shoop Vice Grand Mrs. O H Olson Warden Mrs. T Nelson Conductor Mrs. R Bowler Secretary Mrs. Mattie Nelson Treasurer Mrs. M A Hickey were installed. A delicious supper followed.
D Vander Griend was added to the board of directors of the First National Bank during the annual stockholders meeting Tuesday. Other directors re-elected were B C Crabtree W H Jackman Hans C Berthusen W B Vander Griend and P M Serrurier.
Miss Dora Caza and Harold Wampler wed Tuesday in Bellingham and will reside there. Wampler now works for the Washington Co operative Egg and Poultry Association in Bellingham. D Rutgers moves to 811 W Front St into the Handy house, the Handys moving to the D W Bender home on E Grover St. Friends and relatives surprised Mrs Eva C Thompson on her birthday Monday evening with a luncheon.
J. I. Castle and family have arrived to settle in Lynden and will occupy the house at 1001 Liberty. The move marks a new residence for the Castle family in the Lynden area.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Baldwin have moved to 1306 West Front Street in a brief local update noting their new residence.
Lynden hosts a double installation as the remodeled Masonic Hall on Seventh and Grover Street debuts with a new banquet hall and enlarged lodge room. Eastern Star and Masonic Lodge officers were installed after a seven o’clock dinner, with J. W. Kirkpatrick directing construction.
Lynden Township candidates must file intentions with clerk Conrad Axling by February 6, thirty days before the annual election set for March 7. The notice urges potential contenders to enter the race promptly.
Part 2 of the State College of Washington extension geography course is now available by mail. It covers geographic laws, the state’s divisions, history, climate, people and occupations, and methods for teaching geography in schools using projects, tests, and regional studies.
Mrs. John Bussard departed Tuesday morning for California to visit relatives and friends.
The Ladies Aid of the M E Church will hold a food sale on Saturday January 21 at the Farmers Merchandise Company.
Whatcom County Farm Bureau launches a district wide membership drive starting Monday January 16 led by Frank C. Johnson of Ferndale Route 1. The drive aims to increase county coverage by including dairy farmers poultrymen grain growers beekeepers gardeners and stock raisers. The national Farm Bureau is cited to show its non political purpose and savings for farmers, with reference to a federal cattle indemnity program and varied state and county testing efforts.
The W R C will hold an all day meeting at the G A R Hall on Wednesday with a noon dinner and installation of officers in the afternoon. Officers listed include President Minnie Winup S V President Mabel Warlow J V President Susan Davis Treasurer Kate White Chaplain Lillian True Conductor Ella Clark First Delegate Nellie Nace Second Delegate Ella Clarke First Alternate Mary Rinehart.
The Royal Neighbors of America and Lynden Woodmen will install officers for the coming year at the G A R hall Saturday night. The P N G Club meets January 27 at the IOOF Hall. The Old Time Dancing Club held its January party at the IOOF hall with entertainment by Mr and Mrs Renfro Mr and Mrs Waddilove Mr and Mrs Zylstra Mr and Mrs Weidkamp and Mr and Mrs Serrurier. A luncheon was served at the close.
The Epworth League cabinet scheduled a meeting tonight at Miss Susie Hickey’s residence. W. S. Warsing has purchased the Dick Rutgers chicken ranch on West Front Street.
A baby girl was born Saturday to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kieviet, adding a new member to the family.
The City Council ordered gravelling of West Front Street from the pavement to the city limits and the Grover to De Motts road street. Lynden Township agreed to pay half the cost, with work to begin at once.
Lynden boys run to six straight wins and girls claim a third defeat for Meridian as Lynden defeats Nooksack and Meridian in back to back games. Gorseman and Young lead boys with high point totals while Vander Griend Haveman and Palmer pace the Lynden girls. Foster Carver refereed both contests.
The Whatcom County Poultry Association will hold its next meeting Saturday evening January 14 1922 at Meridian High School Laurel Washington at 8 PM. W B Armstrong president of the State Farm Bureau will address the poultrymen. Election of officers and a trustee recommendation to the Washington Co operative Egg and Poultry Association will occur. The main topic is Organization of the County Association.
Stockholders of the Whatcom County Fair Association will hold their annual meeting Tuesday afternoon at 2 o clock at the City Hall. Officers will be elected and important business transacted. All stockholders are urged to attend.

D W Alverson and George Frick Jr spent Wednesday in Seattle for unspecified business or engagements. The brief outing noted their presence in the city and returned later.

Mrs. Cora Wilson Stewart, famed for Kentucky Moonlight Schools, will speak at Lynden High School Friday at 8 pm on how Washington can curb illiteracy. The state has 18,526 illiterate adults. Asotin County 9. King County 4,757. Admission is free. all are invited.
The Whatcom County Poultry School receives a formal vote of thanks from Poultrymen and Poultry women. The resolution praises the cooperative support of Farm Bureau Extension Service and local agents and calls for more community meetings and another school next year.
The Ladies Altar Society plans a baking sale at the Farmers Mercantile Company on Saturday. Miss Ada Alexander will host the Klatawa club at her home Friday evening. Mrs. F L Wood left Wednesday to visit in California.
