1916 County Liquor Permits and Crime Decline
The 1916 year end records show Whatcom County issued 4492 liquor permits with many to repeat offenders. Auto licenses totaled 2424 and 247 motorcycle licenses, sending 13411.25 to the state treasury. Jail inmates dropped to 148 since Jan 1 last year, with eight to nine held at a time. Monroe reformatory and state penitentiary inmates also fell from 1915 to 1916.
