Lynden Council Hikes Water Rates Amid Rising Costs

The Lynden Town Council approved Ordinance No. 148 raising water charges to fund higher operation and repair costs. Private home rates climb to 1.50 or 1.75 with toilets, sprinkling season rates go from 2.50 to 5.00, plus 15 cents monthly for chicken keepers, with a 20 percent discount if paid before the 10th.

Lynden adopts water rate and irrigation ordinances 1920

The Lynden town council amends Ordinance No. 148 to set connection charges for water service and establish fixed monthly rates. It outlines irrigation season rules with a $5.00 payment due at opening of the season, and municipal oversight by the water superintendent. The ordinance takes effect after publication.

Funeral Services Held Here for Former Lynden Woman

Funeral services for Marie E. Beck, wife of John Beck and former Lynden resident, were conducted at Knapp's Parlors with Rev. W. O. Benahom presiding. The Eastern Star ritual was read at the cemetery. She died Saturday in Revelstoke British Columbia. She leaves a husband two daughters and several relatives.

Townships to Elect Officers on Tuesday

Voters in Lyndes and Ten Mile townships will ballot Tuesday to elect officers for 1920. Polls open 9 to 4 with no registration, and names include Lynden officials L B Stretmer C R Axling Neil Jacobsen George H Whipple and local candidates in Delta and Ten Mile townships along with an evening talk at Mission Church on Venezuela by Miss Winger.

Horse Attack Leaves L Hoffman with Severe Facial Injuries

Last week Mr. L. Hoffman was kicked in the face by a horse. He suffered multiple facial fractures and deep cuts, requiring medical treatment.

Lynden Welcomes Frank Pace Family Return

Mr. William Boehringer cut his left thumb badly while chopping wood Saturday. The Pace family from Salem Oregon sent a letter praising Lynden, saying no place suits them as well as Lynden after traveling since leaving here.

Lynden to Host Whatcom in Tonight’s Twin Basketball Show

Lynden High School teams face Whatcom High in two contests at the Lynden gym tonight with a girls game at 7 45. If Lynden wins a second game in Bellingham Saturday may follow. if Whatcom wins the return game is optional. Lynden boys recently beat Meridian to claim Whatcom County title 23 13. Milk Powdering Expert to Speak at Lynden Meeting

Chicago expert Thomas J. Coster will describe powdered milk production and market demand at a Lynden High School auditorium talk Friday at 8 pm. P W Schubert and J A Scollard will join, with plans for a two story 60 by 100 building and a 600 horsepower steam plant to support expanded butter output.

Lynden Public Library patrons are urged to attend the annual meeting Monday at eight o clock to elect officers for the coming year. The gathering will discuss plans to expand the library and diversify its collections as the institution continues to grow.

High School Thistle prints 2nd edition and extra basketball issue

The Thistle duplicated fifty copies of its second edition and sold them at five cents each while a one page basketball extra was issued for Merid ian games and a literary contest. Forty nine cents expense yielded a five cent profit. Staff changes include Bradford Knapp teaching algebra and physics with Mr Rockey. Several students and Miss MacKinnon return after flu.
