Lynden hosts Blaine Friday night for the season opener in a boys game at 7 30 p.m. with girls also playing. Blaine, led by Coach Fred Rockey, is touted as a strong county title contender. Lynden recently beat Sumas 33 18. girls fell to Sumas 14 2.
A Laurel meeting announced a five day poultry school in Laurel from December 26 to 30. Dr W T Johnson and W D Buchanan will lead sessions on breeding incubation feeding housing and records with a 50 cent enrollment fee. Organized by Whatcom County Poultry Association Farm Bureau and the State College of Washington, enrollments urged through H E Seidell Everson Route 1.
The Bellingham Reveille highlights Lynden area pioneer Michael Dermody of North Prairie who settled in 1883 and helped develop the Lynden district into a dairying farming hub. Dermody recalls long westward journeys from New Hampshire born to Portsmouth, labor in stonecutting, moving by wagon and train to Seattle, and his early ventures with E. M. Cudworth buying land, hog farming, and curing pork while facing high costs and scarce flour.
Lynden public schools start their Christmas holidays this Friday. Students will enjoy a two week vacation with classes resuming on Tuesday, January 3, 1922.
Walter Telgenhoff and his son Martin are serving sentences in Whatcom County jail at Bellingham for attempting to dip a salmon from the Nooksack River. Arrested over a month ago, they were fined $12 each but refused to pay and were jailed until Saturday. The case highlights a shift by the county game commission to enforce a law restricting personal fishing while canneries and purse seiners operate freely.

The Nooksack river flood surged through Lynden and lowland areas for two days, with water two inches higher than the city pump house floor. Dikes breached on several farms and water covered roads near the Guide Meridian bridge. Everson Sumas Fern dale areas flooded. mail service disrupted. Milwaukee railroad traffic affected including the Deming branch due to bridge damage.
The Lyndon chapter of the Order of Eastern Star has elected officers for the coming year. Names include Worthy Matron Mrs. P. M. Serrurier and Worthy Patron Mr. W. T. Roberts along with several other appointed and active posts such as Secretary Mr. G. W. Hall Treasurer Mr. W. H. Elder Conductress Mrs. W. T. Roberts and Electa Mrs. C. Schroeder.
Arthur Meenk and Gerrit Schuyle left Wednesday morning for Seattle on a business trip. L. D. Pangborn has been ill this week, and schoolmates may attend the funeral. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved family.
Official notice from the Collector of Internal Revenue in Tacoma announces major income tax changes. Exemption for married couples rises to 2500 with dependent exemptions doubled to 400, while single filers and nonresident aliens receive 1000. The corporate tax drops to 12 percent and many items lose tax. Filing period runs January 1 to March 15 1922. Christmas dance by the American Legion set for December 26 at I C O F Hall.
Lynden public library adds hundreds of new titles in 1921 and extends hours to every night. New acquisitions include The Street of Seven Stars, Maverick, Miss Lulu Bett, The Brimming Cup, Tarzan of the Apes and many others, with family library cards priced at one dollar for a year.
The new home of J F Helgath is completed inside with finishing touches on the outside. The bungalow is thoroughly modern and one of the most attractive in the district.
The county assessor reports Lynden's total property valuation at 610142 dollars, enabling a 19 mill levy to yield 11592.68 dollars in 1922, up from 11241.78. Lynden township lowers levy from 12 to 8 mills, with residents paying 11556.58, down from 18962.70. Delta, Nooksack, Ten Mile, and Ferndale townships show smaller or reduced totals for 1922.
A large crowd attended the Friday evening banquet held by the Sunday School of the M E Church. A delicious dinner was served followed by games and a program.
Mr and Mrs James C Hayes of Bellingham visited the Gerrit Schuyleman home Friday afternoon and evening. Mrs Howard Caton will entertain the Amphictyon Club with a Christmas party at her home Friday.
