Whatcom County Dairymen's Association will inspect the new Lynden plant on Third Street this Saturday. A 1 o'clock meeting at Hawley's Hall will follow with speeches by J A Scollard of the United Dairy Association of Washington and other dairy interests. All Lynden dairymen are invited.
Four hundred two residents registered to vote at Lynden primaries as books closed. Precinct 1 east of Fifth Street recorded 165 registrations and precinct 2 west of Fifth Street 237. Precinct 3 Lynden Township reported 135 registrations.
Pride river ranch reports 34 tons of raspberries from ten acres at 360 per ton totaling 12224.00. After expenses of about 5000, net yearly profit exceeds 7000. Forty pickers in season. best day 4000 pounds. Additional twenty-five acres planted. two years to 100 tons possible. Raspberries at 18 cents per pound this year. growers see healthy profits at 8 cents too. Lynden district fruit quality praised and future prospects noted.
Lynden public schools expect record enrollment as they open for the fall term under Superintendent William A. Fisher. Teachers arrive to prep. Jaunt of University of Washington summer courses delays three teachers. Lynden Christian School also opens Monday with new remodeling including basement and two furnaces. staff listed with Ramerman as principal and Haveman De Valois Zylstra among teachers.
Captain William J. Coyle Republican candidate for lieutenant governor will speak in Lynden Friday in front of the City Drug Store. The exact time is not learned as he tours the state. Coyle is noted for honesty in public service.
A distinguished public figure, noted for level headed leadership in King County, tours Seattle with Ralph Graves, former private in the 3rd Artillery, and Harold Ackley, formerly with the 77th division, citing wartime service in France and Croix de Guerre honors.
Five Lynden boys set an eight hour round trip record by climbing Mount Baker on the 18th. Marius Vander Griend, Herman Vander Griend, Teunis Ko men, Herman Heusinkveld and Arthur Oordt reached the summit, wrote their names in the book, and returned to camp by five in the evening. They were the first Lynden group to sign the summit book this year after another local party did not summit.
Henry Shagren fell from the roof of a shed he was building on his farm Wednesday, dropping fourteen feet and injuring one ankle seriously after landing on one foot.
Clint Brown cut his knee badly on a sharp saw at Maple Falls last week. He sought medical attention in Lynden.
The Sunday Schools of Lynden Baptist Church and Lynden First Reformed Church held picnics at Fairhaven Park on a Wednesday. Races and games were featured as part of the day.
Mr and Mrs Roland Handy and family arrived from Kenosha Wisconsin traveling five weeks by Ford with no auto trouble. He cites the roughest roads between Bellingham and Burlington. Mr and Mrs John Van Wyck, visiting the Spaan residence, have departed for their home in California.
The 1920 federal census reports Whatcom County population at 50585 an increase of 1074 over 1910 and 2.2 percent. Bellingham stands at 25570, rural districts down 198. county class remains third with plans to raise salaries.
Funds appropriated by the state to reimburse owners of infected cattle were exhausted causing the Lynden district tuberculosis testing to end this week. The inspector had only one week of work remaining statewide. examinations will resume next season after new legislative funding.
A party of seventeen Lynden youths enjoyed a camping trip at Birch Bay last week. The group included Misses Margaret Bronsema Grace Ripperda Augusta Ripperda Virginia Ripperda Joanna Haveman Grace Stuurmans Nellie De Vries Alice Martha Kok Pauline Van Weerdhuisen Minnie Vander Mey Fannie Vander Mey May Berkes and Messrs William De Vries William Bronsema Oliver Bronsema.
A twelve pound girl was born to Mr and Mrs John Otter Friday. The W H M S of the Methodist Church will meet Sep 2 with Mrs Jackman. All members and friends are urged to be present. A splendid program is promised.
The Lynden memorial park campaign opened with the executive committee raising about a quarter of the needed funds. Three thousand dollars total is sought to buy the Scofield eight acre tract on Fishtrap Creek and provide park improvements including roads picnic tables and a swimming pool. R B Le Cocq named city campaign chairman and R B Burns for country districts. The site promises winding stream a swimming pool and a grove of trees.
The body of E. B. Robeson, who died in Lynden last week, was shipped to Minot North Dakota for funeral services. He served as pastor of a Methodist Church in Minot for 25 years and was born in Leeds County Ontario in 1857. Survived by his widow, two daughters Muriel Robeson of Lynden and Mrs John Rand of Goodrich North Dakota, and three sons Frank H of Fargo North Dakota F G Robeson of Minot North Dakota and Barney Robeson of Lynden.
Lynden White Leghorns entered by Harry Beernink move up in the Puyallup egg-laying contest. They tie for third with 125 eggs in July, six behind the leader, while Hen No. 136 ties for fourth with 27 eggs for the month and 224 eggs for nine months. Beernink pone ranks ninth in nine-month earnings. most top pens are light varieties. Entry blanks for 1920-21 are available at Puyallup.
Local families in North Prairie host and visit across Lynden Delta and Bellingham areas. Guests include Mr and Mrs J Bartelds, Mr and Mrs Hoksbergen, Mrs W Palmer, Mr and Mrs P Clarke, and others. The North Prairie School plans to open August 30 with teachers W Anthony.
