Pickle Crop Brings Farmers $8,115.96 in Fountain Area
In Fountain Michigan on October 15 a busy packing season produced 1,495,90 bushels of cucumbers at area stations with 4,196 turned into hills or 976 barrels and 6,390 salted into winks. Manager Herman Hansen reports $8,115.96 paid to farmers plus over $1,000 in labor. The season’s yield more than quadrupled the 1924 crop. Three carloads of dills and one of salt pickles were shipped from Fountain this week. A Millerton accident occurred when Nate Reed was struck by a Ford. he escaped serious injury. Local business activity included Ludington visits and beef cattle shipments by Castenholtz Packing Co. from Muskegon and local sales by S. D. Brant.
