May 25. A Michigan Crop Improvement Association report credits major gains in seed production in northern Michigan, highlighting Rosen Rye on South Manitou Island, Cheboygan County developed Robust Beans, and a shift toward seed marketing. Foundation seed gathered from C. S. Dearborn’s Bellaire farm supported new growers. Large seed sales include an 80 bushel alfalfa shipment and a Freesoil woman farmer producing enough Golden Glow corn to plant 1,500 acres.
