Death in Meade township sparks inquest and plans for Freesoil events
The body of Thos. Brown Jr. was found near a granary in Meade township by neighbor Dan McArthur, death attributed to acute indigestion. Brown, a Sarnia transplant five years in Meade, left a bachelor life of 43, with burial to take place in Sarnia. An inquest was deemed unnecessary. Nearby social events include a senior play, Mother’s Day services, a May 15 literary program, a May 21 class night, and a May 17 baccalaureate sermon by Rev. W. Keith Chidester, plus a Freesoil hall sale and school activities through May 21. The Freesoil Ladies’ Aid met, arranged a May 15 program, welcomed 19 members and four visitors, and planned refreshments by Mrs. Hunt and others.

West Riverton Ladies Aid Meets For Last Time
The Ladies Aid society of the Evangelical church held its final meeting of the season at Mrs Cari Schwass home with 30 members and friends sewing carpet rags and sharing a cooperative dinner. Special singing and a reading were presented by Mes Jamies James and Maurice Butler. The next meeting is set for the first Wednesday in October at Mrs E E Olmstead’s home. Church services are listed for West Riverton St Paul Summit and Mothers Day planned sermons. Rev O Y Schneider was reappointed pastor of the Riverton circuit for another year by the Michigan conference.
