DETROIT UP Elliott J Richardson called NEA members to discard the investment theory of education in favor of self realization as the goal. He urged three aims building self confidence curiosity and love of learning and warned against treating schools like factories. He backed Nixon revenue sharing as aiding schools and freeing teachers to focus on individual and social goals. He dismissed Helen Bain’s critique of Nixon’s education promises as overstated. The administration proposed 4.2 billion in new education funds next year with 40 percent from revenue sharing.

Pentwater protest hearing details zoning actions and witness
Pentwater residents packed the Community Hall as the protest group and officers testified. Ray Anderzack named about 180 property owners in Pentwater Township while zoning administrator Hepworth faced questions on lots 49 and the Gedham cottage, building setbacks, and state sanitation rules. The hearing recessed to July 14 with possible schedule changes as Spencer objected to the proceedings.

LHS Class of 1921 Fifty Year Reunion Held in Ludington
The Ludington High School class of 1921 celebrated 50 years with a June reunion at the Elks Club and yacht club events. Eighty two members attended, many sharing memories and remarks from teachers Miss Katherine Newberg and Harvey Paulson. A business meeting planned another reunion in five years, with yearly local gatherings and tours of community sites for attendees from Ludington, Michigan, and beyond.

Three Minor Accidents Reported By Local Police
Three minor crashes were logged by Mason County Sheriff and Ludington Police on Tuesday. Patricia Emerson’s eastbound car stalled on Orchard Road led to a rear collision with Vicky LeClair’s eastbound vehicle. LeClair’s car sustained right side damage. A separate single vehicle mishap on East Ludington Avenue involved Sherry Mason bumping a gas pump while entering a driveway. Charles Cisco reported a gravel loss of control on Meisenheimer Road leaving his motorcycle damaged on the left.

Michigan State To Offer Education Workshops Here
Michigan State University will offer ED 483-881 (3) Workshop to Education in three areas of teacher education this summer at West Shore Community College. Sessions run 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. weekly, with July 19 to 30 for Teaching Science, August 2 to 13 for Sex Education, and August 16 to 27 for the Non-Graded Elementary School. Registration is July 12, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Room 101, Student Services Building. Tuition is $22 per credit hour.

Ludington Aerie 1354 Fraternal Order of Eagles hosted a chicken dinner on Saturday evening with about 160 attendees from Manistee and Grand Haven. Rites Set For Mrs Peterson of Scottville
Mrs Elmer L Peterson 65 of route 2 Scottville died Tuesday in Memorial Hospital of Mason County after eight days as patient. Born Oct 18 1915 in Brethren she trained as a cosmetologist at Grand Rapids School of Cosmethology and lived in Scottville most of her life. She was a hairdresser until retiring two years ago. Surviving are her widower husband Elmer a son Albert four sisters and four brothers. Funeral services are Thursday at Stephens Chapel in Scottville.
