Migrant day care centers in Michigan enter their eighth year serving migrant families harvest season. Nine centers across Antrim Grand Traverse Leelanau Benzie Manistee Mason counties, with plans to add Northport Frankfort Elk Rapids and Traverse City area centers by July 3. Centers in public and parochial schools use vacant summer buildings to care for children from infancy to 14, emphasizing language development with bilingual staff. Each center provides health services including exams dental vision hearing and tuberculin testing. a full-time nurse and on-call doctor ensure medical needs are met. funding comes from state and federal sources.

Neighbor George Olson recalls Crystal Valley a peaceful farm village northeast of Hart and near Ludington. In 1941 42 five boys camped six nights and later returned for a longer stay. the CCC built a lake beach and facilities, now nearly vanished. A summer of air raid myths, outdoor movies, Cubs lore, and a singing preacher spell Crystal Valley’s charm.
