Ann Arbor June 23 University of Michigan 4930 graduates heard Dr. Alexander G Ruthven in his first baccalaureate address urge graduates to base beliefs on facts, use scholarly training for a happy useful life, and adjust to eternal verities. He warned the fit must live and urged action on accurate information and sound judgments aside from hearsay.
Art Davis, noted aviator of Lansing, thrilled 25000 spectators at Lansing air circus on Sunday. He won first in all events entered including the fastest ship on the field. Highlights included maneuvers by three planes of the observation squadron. one pilot injured seriously and another with a minor mishap.
In Battle Creek H B Wood placed second in the 500 cubic inch plane race, Roy Nass of Ypsilanti secured second in the 800 cubic inch plane race, and K C Snyder of Jackson finished second in parachute jumping.
ANN ARBOR mid June 23. The University of Michigan commencement exercises at Ferry Field showcase the academic procession led by the band and color bearers. Following are the classes, graduate school heads, faculty, regents, the commencement speaker and president, with the maize and blue honor guard from various university departments joining the finale.

Detroit on June 23 reports recall supporters and opponents of Mayor Charles Bowles preparing for court action. Oakley E. Distin of the election commission announced 93 296 signatures were valid, above the 89 740 required for a recall election. John Gillespie accused 40 000 signatures as fictitious and said he would present the claim before Judge Arthur Webster in circuit court.
The University of Michigan conferred honorary degrees on 14 individuals including Canada’s minister to the United States Vincent Massey. Detroit ceramist Mary Chase Perry Stratton, musician Albert Augustus Stanley, and architect Irving Kane Pond were cited for contributions to campus life and Michigan buildings.
Clare County, Michigan, reports no indebtedness despite an $8,000,000 assessed valuation and ongoing delinquent taxes. The county treasurer notes a healthy road fund balance and deposits in savings banks, while Clare City carries large bonded debt for a major building project.
