Summer Reading Club at the Ludington Public Library meets Tuesday, June 20 at 2 p.m. in the Children's Room. Two filmstrips, Stone Soup and Explore The Library, will be shown. Children tour the library after the films and should bring materials to make hand puppets. Reports are due by the Wednesday after the weekly meeting for absentees.
Navy Seaman James L. De Rooy, son of Mr and Mrs. Joseph R. DeRooy of Scottville, sails to the Mediterranean aboard USS William H Standley. Ship left Mayport, Fla., on June 5, escorting USS America.
The Past Presidents Club of Ludington Eagle Aerie 1354 enjoyed a steak-fry at Eagle Park in Hamlin. Horseshoe pitching and visiting were highlights. Attending were John Jensen president Herman J. Stohr vice president Conrad Nelson chaplain JunMar Swanson Jack McDonald K. V. Christofferson Laurence Organ Fred Granger Richard Larsen Joseph Winczewski Marshall Mattis Louis Bektrom and Ted Hamilton. A family picnic is planned August 27 at K. V. Christofferson cottage on Lake Michigan.
Pete Marquette Lodge No 299 held its regular meeting led by Worshipful Master Warren Lindsey. A meat loaf supper preceded the session where Brother Paul Clough received a 50 year pin. Five Past Masters attended and Lindsey reported on Grand Lodge activities May 23-24. Senior Warden Robert Johnson attended. A Knights of Columbus Masonic fish fry is set for Thursday June 22 at the KC picnic area on Jebavy Drive with reservations through officers.

Ken Case rates Fiddler on the Roof as a solid winner for the Manistee Civic Players production at Ramsdell. Dominic Naffie stars as Tevye with Lorraine Arsenault as Golde, delivering strong performances amid themes of grinding poverty and family struggle.
Tevye, Golde, and a strong supporting cast deliver a lively Fiddler performance at the Ramsdell. Naffie shines as Tevye and Lorraine Arsenault plays a sharp Golde. Cindy Ferguson Karol Carlson Pam Arsenault excel as the daughters, with Dave Stenzel Walt Derylo Bill Moore as their suitors. Eddie Smith adds merriment as Yente. box office lines form for remaining shows, while flash bulbs distract opening night and cameras are urged to be confiscated.
Three eighth grade students earned top honors in Farm Bureau Insurance Groups fifth annual America and Me Essay Contest. Tim Kelleher of Holy Family Grand Blanc won first, Bonnie Bernard Escanaba Junior High second, and Marti Griffith Forest Hills Junior High Grand Rapids third. Tim receives a fully paid four day trip to Washington DC with parents and teacher Michael Kelly. Steve Paulus Ludington won Mason County’s first place in the county results. Rhode Island was the first American colony to declare independence from England.
A two car collision on US 31 near US 10 at 10 pm Thursday caused minor damage with no injuries. Earl Gemmen of Holland stopped for a light. Mary Folland of Ludington rear ended him. No tickets issued. A second crash at 12:30 am Thursday in Ludington State Park Pine Camp ground involved William Lindenau of Scottville rear ending a parked car owned by Virginia DiNuoscio of Cuyahoga Falls Ohio, causing moderate damage to the DiNuoscio vehicle and minor damage to Lindenau’s car. no tickets issued.
Mason County Magistrate Court records show multiple fines for traffic and light violations including David Motyka paying 18 dollars for failure to yield, Douglas Shoemaker 23 dollars for speeding, Bruce Patulski 18 dollars for excessive tire noise, George Hubbard 16 dollars for failing to dim headlights, Paul McGrath 22 dollars, Lawrence Bihlman 16 dollars for water skiing with an unsafe mirror, Roger Edwards 24 dollars for speeding. District Court lists Alex Lark 175 dollars bond 500 and 0 sentence, Allen Johnson 30 days for petit larceny, Louis Kesson 100 dollars for petit larceny, Richard Jewell 50 dollars and 10 days for disturbance.
