McGhee 66 of Free Soil dies unexpectedly
William McGhee 66 of Free Soil died Tuesday. Born Aug 11 1905 in Scotland he came to the United States at 16 and moved to Manistee in 1958 from Detroit. A retired Manistee Tron Works employee he led Boy Scouts for nearly 50 years and earned the Silver Beaver Award. Survived by wife Helen son David Thomas daughter Janet Callender seven grandchildren two sisters and a brother. Funeral services 2 p.m. Friday at Spiller Spitler Funeral Home Royal Oak burial White Chapel Memorial Cemetery Troy. viewing today at LaValle Johnson Manistee and Thursday evening at Royal Oak. Elderly Home Nursing Care Call Hits Board Meeting
The Manistee-Mason County Home Nursing Advisory Board met at the Pines Restaurant in Manistee with Dr. William W. Moon introduced as full time director of the Manistee-Mason District Health Department. Dr. Hansen urged better doctor nurse communication to optimize resources and reduce hospitalizations under Medicare, noting home care as a cost saver if funding for intermittent nursing and other services is adequate. The group discussed Medicare cuts and the need for expanded home services, while Ada Oake resigned as secretary and Marie Burgoyne was chosen to replace her. The next meeting is set for noon on Wednesday Sept 6 at West Shore Community College.

Thomas Depuydt Earns Medical Degree At MSU
Thomas G Depuydt of Ludington received MSU's first MD degree in the June 1972 commencement. He is among 30 first MSU College of Human Medicine graduates since 1966. Dr Depuydt will intern at Blodgett Memorial Hospital Grand Rapids after completing premedical work at MSU in veterinary medicine.

West Shore scholarships fund college journalism program
Two $100 journalism scholarships will be offered at West Shore Community College next year. The Ludington Daily News and the Manistee News Advocate donate $100 each for tuition and books for News Writing News Reporting and News Editing classes. The West Shore Collegian will serve as the official college newspaper, published four times yearly as a supplement to the local papers and distributed to high schools and residents across Oceana and Lake counties, with an annual circulation of about 15,000. The paper will be distributed to high schools twice yearly and to college students, totaling six issues per year, with students handling news and advertising as a lab for journalism studies.

Accidents Investigated By Officers
Seven accidents were investigated by local officers in the past 24 hours with no injuries. A deer was struck at Chauvet and Benedict Roads at 12 50 a m by Steven Miller. Minor damage to the vehicle. At 3 40 p m Tuesday at U S 31 and Sixth Street a left turn collision between June Vaclavik and Douglas Klifman caused minor damage to both cars. Moderate damage occurred in a two car crash at Diana and Station Streets at 7 17 p m Tuesday as Laval Davis pulled through and failed to yield to Lisa Hammond. Two cars collided at North Statfon Street at 5 10 p m Tuesday causing extensive damage. Fremont Ashton left turning struck Victor Samuels in the Dowland Washington Avenue intersection at 12 55 p m Tuesday resulting in moderate damage. Raymond Plank turning from a parking space was struck by Jane Carlson in West Washington Avenue parking lot with minor damage. Minor damage to cars driven by Edward Beyer and Geraldine Mier in Brody's lot on West Ludington Avenue as Mier backed from a space.
