Woman Arrested in Smuggling Guns to Atlanta Prisoners
Arlene Granito, 25, of Newark New Jersey, girlfriend of one inmate, was arrested on a $25,000 bond after two pistols were smuggled through a visitors restroom pipe to four convicts who held 21 hostages for 28 hours at a federal prison in Atlanta. The four men, serving long sentences for murder and bank robbery, released the hostages after a newspaper with their grievances was delivered. Authorities described the plan involving a plumbing pipe drop and additional weapons and tools.
