Medicare Dominates Aged Health Costs In 1971
A Social Security Bulletin report shows the 65 plus group averaged 861 in medical bills in 1971, with public funds covering about two thirds. Medicare paid 61.6 percent of hospital expenses for the elderly, while the aged accounted for a quarter of national health expenditures despite being only 10 percent of the population.

Four Minor Crashes Reported In Ludington Area
Thomas Wardlow, 17, of Ludington sustained minor injuries after his car left Jebavy Drive and rolled over near Rasmussen Road. He received a ticket for violating the basic speed law. Two cars sustained moderate damage at Court Emily Street intersection with no injuries or tickets. A hit and run damaged Ronald Lindsey’s parked car on West Foster Street. Parking lot collisions near East Ludington Avenue and Nelson Road caused minor damage to two vehicles. Ricky Sherland’s car hit a parked car on route 1 Scottville with no tickets issued. Epworth Heights saw a sideswipe incident on Burma Road near 3:55 p.m. with no injuries or tickets.
