Mrs Frank Barclay, Scottville correspondent, requests readers to send daily news to build a local Scottville paper. She will relay material promptly to The Ae Thee Telephone Scottville 126 F14 of No 16.
Clare Martin completes seven year tenure guiding a local parent teacher and youth club network. Over 18 years she directed the Parent-Teacher association in Scumey, helping build one of the county’s leading groups. The article notes expanded projects, fundraising for playgrounds and gym chairs, and the group’s role in sponsoring clubs, events, and library support. Officers elected include Mrs. David Falconer as president and Mrs. W. J. Cook as vice president. reports celebrate 121 members with active participation and yearlong achievements.
At Amber Missionary Society gathering Thursday afternoon the group discussed reintroducing Bible study in district schools. A committee led by Mrs. Roy Pittard was named to interview school boards across Amber Town. Public birthday cake noted as Mrs. Chris Jacobson’s birthday.
The grades of the local school had a good display of art work at the Parent-Teacher association meeting. The exhibit included drawing poster cut work and craft with original designs. Scrapbooks showed fashions music history and travel themes. Miss Ternice Wleintans taught the art classes this year.
In South Custer for over four decades Mr La Belle farmed with cherry and peach orchards. Ill health forced retirement to Scottville. He attended St Mary’s church and supported its charity. Family and neighbors express sympathy as they adjust to changes in Scottville and nearby communities.
A fragmentary church notices item lists Free Methodist service at 7:30 with trucks hauling gravel on a field near a road west of a school house. Sunday schedule includes Scottville Sunday school at 10 and class meeting at 11 with no evening service due to the baccalaureate. South Custer hosts Sunday school at 10 and preaching at 11 led by Rev. A. G. Butley.
Mrs. Harry Barre hosted the North Custer Poultry club Saturday at her South Custer home. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. James McClellan and daughter Martha, Mr. and Mrs. Harry McClellan and children, A. Balakavage and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Landon, Mr. and Mrs. Homer McKee and Bernice. After business, games and lunch followed. A funeral for Mrs. Claud Renwick drew neighborhood attendees on June 2. Martha McClellan visited family, returning Tuesday from stay with Mrs. Barre. Ed Landon and family also did a business trip to Custer on Wednesday.
Funeral services were held at St Marys church for Henry P LaBelle of South Custer. Rev Joseph Karas conducted a Requiem high mass as pallbearers and mourners from Ludington Scottville Custer attended. Interment was in the family lot at Custer cemetery beside his daughter Evelyn.
Munday. Mr. and Mrs. John Allen of Crys. Valley were dinner guests Thursday at the D. B. Wing home. Mr. and Mrs. Gen Gening and daughter Nedra of Scottie called on Custer friends Wednesday evening. George Weeks of Scottville spent Wednesday with his daughter Mrs. Emma Deling. Mesdames Avery Benedict Mart Gordon and Forest Hazard of Scottville were in Custer Thursday. Automobiles killed 4710 persons in Great Britain in 1927 an increase of 873 over 1936.
