One hundred five seventh grade students from O. J. De Jonge Junior High joined the Social Studies Club for factory visits. Three groups toured eight industries each including a Manistee plant, guided by Irving Johns with chaperones Dawn Jensen Kovar and James Clousing.
J Milo Wilson Mason County Civil Defense director explained the Skywarn program to Mason County Radio Club members during the regular meeting in the clubhouse. Volunteers will be stationed countywide to detect funnel clouds hear funnel wind roar and alert authorities for timely warnings. Field Day is planned for June 28 29 at Leo McCarthy farm First Street with Mrs Willard Lake as carry in dinner food chairperson. Clayton Dewey reported on club affiliation and represented the group at the Grand Rapids Amateur Radio Convention. Members voted to sell the club bus and refreshments were provided by Dewey. Guests included J Milo Wilson L Gardiner Miller Mrs John Casey Mrs Leonard Smedberg and Glenn Del Tour.

Mrs J H Tibbs 85 longtime Mason County resident died in a Fresno convalescent home after a long illness. Born Hannah Williamson in Ludington 1884 she was among Mason County’s first college graduates from Michigan Agricultural College in 1911. She married J H Tibbs in the Philippines in 1913 and taught there before moving back to the United States in 1917 and to Fresno in 1924. The couple observed their 56th wedding anniversary recently. Surviving are her widower son Mark of Fresno daughter Mrs C N Gibson of Seattle four brothers Hans Stanley Harold and Thorwald and sister Mrs Hulda Siemens plus three grandchildren. Funeral services and interment were in Fresno.

Dodge Custer area resident B Dodge age 84 died Thursday afternoon after a month long illness. Born February 24 1884 in Chicago he lived in Mason County over 60 years. Survived by widow Dawn Silverman a son William of Valhalla two daughters Olive Bennett of Ingster Mary Robinson of Battle Creek nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Funeral services tentatively Monday from St Marys Catholic Church Custer Stephens Funeral Home Scottville in charge.

Miss Lillie R. Swanson died Thursday. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Monday at Rye Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Christiansen officiating. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
Two auto accidents occurred in the last 24 hours. Ronald Williams of 707 N James St drove his car into a tree in the Beechwood Camp Area of Ludington State Park, injuring passenger Chuck Rister of 809 W Loomis St who required hospital treatment for minor injuries. Williams was cited for violation of the basic speed law. A Michigan Consolidated Gas Company truck parked on Harrison Street was struck by a hit and run vehicle causing minor damage.
Miss Lillie R Swanson 63 of 115 W Broadway Scottville died at 6 pm Thursday after a four day illness. Born November 2 1905 in Victory Township she moved to Scottville in 1962. Survived by sisters Laura Swanson Edith Hines brother Arthur Swanson and nieces and nephews. Funeral services at Rye Funeral Home 2 pm Monday.
