Chicago July 29 AP Flowers that bloomed in ancient Egypt twenty centuries before Cleopatra and grains from royal tombs have been brought to the University of Chicago by Egyptologist Prof. James Henry Breasted. The collection includes dates olives pomegranates and flowers from funeral garlands and was donated by Berlin archaeologist Dr. George Schweinfurth. Atlantic City July 23 AP The anthracite operators conference replied to miners protests that only about 15000 was spent on newspaper advertising to warn of a possible suspension in the Jard coal fields after September 1 The cost equals three tenths of one mill per ton of coal The miners international vice president Phillip Murray called the drive a waste of consumer money The conference argued the ad would raise coal cost by three hundredths of a cent per ton and that the wage increase would add about ten cents per car for workers in the hard coal fields The total cost was less than the cost of a three hour suspension during the last button strike at the Philadelphia Coal and Iron company.

Fatal motor crash kills John Filut at Paulina Street
John Filut died at 7 this morning in Paulina Stearns hospital from a fractured skull after being struck by Verne L Miller’s auto in front of his home at 706 Sixth Street last night. The accident occurred about 6 o'clock as Filut stepped into the street to assist his wife and niece returning from berry picking in a Riverton auto driven by Albert Lister. Filut was flung against the radiator, his skull fractured, and he was taken by Miller’s car with Mrs Filut at his side. The scene involved multiple loaded trucks and bystanders as the victims were rushed to aid. The story continues on page 4.
