Western Michigan residents will soon know Tad Ingian’s front yard as Ludington’s lakefront park. For years the dream of a city playground along Lake Michigan has moved from mirage to near reality. Commissioner Klemm approved park work as H J Williams and two workers clear undergrowth and shape the space near Stearns Park. A drive for autos will connect the area with Ashes hauled to form driveways through the park for seasonal retreats.

Epworth Pioneer Leader Theodore Strawn Dies in Florida
Theodore Strawn, famed Epworth pioneer and major Florida orange landowner, died just before 2 p.m. Friday at his Semi Nole Cottage home in Epworth. Born August 31, 1870, in Ottawa Illinois, he helped modernize Florida’s orange industry through ambitious packing and notable brands like Bol White. He studied law at Northwestern, practiced in Illinois, and married Candice Richey in 1897 before Florida beckoned his family to Deland. He was known for fishing, outdoors, and leading one of the state’s largest and best equipped packing operations.

Lansing August 22 The state highway and conservation departments may soon open the entire Michigan shore line on the Great Lakes for camping and recreation. Lower lake levels reveal a land strip 150 to 409 feet wide whose ownership is held by the state per a Michigan Supreme Court ruling. Public access via roads to desirable camping sites is under consideration to prevent trespass disputes with adjacent property owners. On inland lakes shore lines belong to nearby owners, but on the Great Lakes the state owns the submerged land, water, and fish.

Boy crawls into Civil War cannon in courthouse yard
