City to Offer Arts Craft and Dancing Classes at Two Centers

The Corral at Sixteenth and Avenue J and the Community Center at Sixth and Avenue B will host arts and crafts and dancing programs starting this week. Martha Lively leads arts and crafts with leather work and wood carving, while Ira Scarborough runs ballroom, jitterbug, and acrobatic dancing. Classes are free and open to all teens, with weekly meetings and a Sunday teen meeting at the Corral to discuss Halloween plans and equipment needs.

Murder Mill 28 Men Held In Mexican Slayings Case

Mexican officials continued a wide ranging inquiry into the deaths of 38 farm workers in the lower Rio Grande valley. Twenty eight Mexican nationals are held at Nuevo Laredo on murder charges after bodies were found along the Rio Grande near Brownsville Hidalgo and Mission. Authorities say the gang transported workers to the United States for work, then robbed killed and dumped bodies in the river. The accused face a Mexican emergency murder law with the death penalty.

Dr Bernice Moore to Speak on Tech Campus

Dr Bernice Moore of the Hogg Foundation UT will lecture at Texas Tech Friday and Saturday. Talks are scheduled for 10 am and 1 pm Friday in the agriculture auditorium and 9 am Saturday in the same venue. A 7:30 pm Friday discussion for freshmen will be at the First Christian church.

Oklahoma Dean Burg to Give Recital at Senior High

Dean Clarence Burg of Oklahoma City University will perform a piano recital Monday at 8:30 in the Senior High School auditorium. Sponsored by the Lubbock Music Club Allegro Club and the South Plains Music Teachers association, the program features Bach, Beethoven, Ravel, Prokofieff, Debussy, Liszt, Brahms and more. Burg, Ampico recording artist and founder of the Oklahoma City piano festival, also conducts teacher clinics in Miss Mary Dunn's Studio Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.

Axis Sally Rita Zuccca Convicted and Sentenced

Rita Zuccca known as Axis Sally was convicted of having intelligence with the enemy and sentenced to four years and five months in prison. The report notes she broadcast pro German propaganda during wartime. The other sentence mentions that the 1830 census counted the blind, deaf and dumb separately.
