A grenade hurled at American pilgrims in Jerusalem’s old city killed a 5 year old Arab girl and injured 12. Seven Americans in a group of 18 were treated and released. Police detained 15 people in connection with the blast.

Wolfforth resident Modesto Ayala Portillo, 20, died after a pickup struck him from behind while he stood behind his disabled auto on U S 180 about 18 miles west of Seminole. Manuel Montoya 23 and Maximino Martinez 30 of Mexico were injured and hospitalized in fair condition. Portillo, the 84th traffic death in the South Plains this year, had moved to Wolfforth in 1964 and leaves parents two brothers and four sisters. Funeral services are pending in Lubbock.
A silver sand red Cessna Skylark crashed on the east side of Guadalupe Peak in Culberson County Texas, apparently killing all aboard. Sheriff Orvel Capehart requested ground search parties from the El Paso Civil Air Patrol to aid in reaching the wreckage in the difficult terrain.
Federal agents seized 200 pounds of high grade heroin worth 40 million dollars hidden in a 1971 Jaguar shipped from Le Havre. Five people were arrested, including a French couple, as agents blocked exits from Manhattan.
North Texas enjoys a brief warming trend with partly cloudy skies and mid to high 60s today before a polar front brings rain and temperatures down to the middle 30s by Wednesday night. Lynn County farmers report 55,000 acres of cotton damaged by hail in a Thursday storm, with recovery uncertain.
