Its A Girl Aboard Transatlantic Flight To Shannon
A baby girl was born on a jetliner high over the Atlantic 600 miles west of Ireland to the wife of U S Army sergeant Shannon. Steward Nick Muller delivered the infant on a makeshift bed in the forward cabin as the plane diverted to Shannon Airport. Mother and daughter, weighing six pounds, were taken to hospital and reported well. The father, Sgt Martin McNamer of the 413th Signal Corps, was in New York awaiting news.

High Plains water study advances in House panel
The House appropriations committee plans to approve a new public works bill including 200000 for a preliminary study of all options to bring additional water into West Texas and New Mexico. Interior Department to conduct the study. George Mahon of Lubbock leads the effort to address West Texas water needs independent of the controversial Colorado River Basin bill. Unusual September Cold Front Brings Widespread Showers
A leading edge cold front swept into the Lubbock area Wednesday bringing widely scattered thundershowers across the Texas midlands. Littlefield and several towns recorded trace amounts while most rain fell in open country.
