Editorial urges Lubbock voters to cast ballots on seven bond issues totaling 15.668 million for 1964 to 1969 projects. Items include 7.5 million for a power plant expansion, 998 thousand for airport expansion, and 2.5 million waterworks with other sewer street drainage and park improvements. All additions claim no tax rate increase.
Berdeen South Dakota United Press International reports Mrs Mary Ann Fischer 30 and her husband Andy Fischer welcomed quintuplets a 76 a week shipping clerk and mother of five. The four girls and a boy named Mary and James Andrew were born premature at Luke Hospital weighing about 3 1/2 pounds each. The Roman Catholic bishop Lambert Hoch christened the infants as medical staff worked to keep them alive amid risks of prematurity and membrane disease.
More than 12000 students arrive on the Texas Tech campus for the fall term as residence halls open at noon and orientation begins. Freshmen and transfers start Monday at Lubbock Municipal Auditorium. classes begin Friday with an annual registration schedule. The university budgets 15.4 million for education and allied activities, as the last two original staff members Dr and Mrs IW Gates retire, leaving the faculty of 500 full-time and 236 part-time instructors.
Chiang Ching-kuo, head of Free China security forces, predicts stronger Nationalist raids on the mainland and says communist China is at its weakest moment since seizing power 14 years ago. In Berdeeen South Dakota Andrew Fischer, 38, father of quintuplets born Saturday, appeared worn yet pleased as he answered questions at St Luke's Hospital cafeteria. He plans to stay in a nine room rental near his home to keep the children safe and said he will rest before returning to work. He noted he and his wife will cope with ten children and that he is too tired to be nervous about the unexpected brood. Bergen newsmen spoke with Dr James Berbos who delivered the babies.
Two sharp rolling earthquakes shook a 100 mile coastal region in northern California on Saturday. The first quake at 12 46 p m centered near Hollister caused dirt to spill on Chittenden Pass Road about 60 miles east of Hollister. A weaker second quake at 1 29 p m was felt in Hollister and San Jose area with reports of sharper shaking elsewhere in Santa Clara Valley.

President Kennedy will undertake a five day coast to coast conservation tour starting September 21 covering 12 states with 13 speeches and a night in a log cabin. The trip aims to inspect conservation programs while possibly adding stops, with Lassen Peak and Grand Teton slated for overnight stays. Andrew T. Hatcher stated the schedule may expand and includes political context with nine Democratic senators up for reelection. Kennedy plans a Newport family weekend prior to travel.
State Republicans map aggressive 1964 campaign to win state and local offices as Goldwater for president activity intensifies. Van O’Donnell Jr. told the State Executive Committee in Dallas that this will be a year of opportunity with key speeches, songs, slogans, and signs backing Goldwater, amid a closed session on party finances lasting into Saturday afternoon.

Senator Barry Goldwater is seen as a leading GOP candidate. supporters claim he has broad support and may secure a majority of convention votes. A San Antonio national committeewoman notes Goldwater reserved an entire floor in a San Francisco hotel, seen as a sign he will accept the draft.
