Texas Cotton Output Falls on Drought Hit State

The Agriculture Department estimates Texas will harvest 4,250,000 bales of cotton this year, down 167,000 from 1963, with drought across Northwest Texas and Southwest Oklahoma cutting plant growth. Abandonment of about 4.9 percent is expected, and yields are projected at 506 pounds per harvested acre.

Italian Chief Incapacitated and Senate Takes Over

Rome AP report states President Antonio Segni was declared incapacitated by the Italian Senate and Cesare Merzagora, the 66 year old Senate president, was named to assume duties. A medical bulletin cited grave illness after Segni suffered a cerebral stroke three days prior, leaving him partly paralyzed and with speech impairment.

Woman revived after 40 minutes dead in Santa Barbara

Clara Allison, 53, collapsed at home near Goleta Thursday from a heart attack. Husband James and EMTs attempted revival as she showed no heartbeat or blood pressure. At Cottage Hospital doctors revived her after a 15 minute ambulance ride. She later spoke of feeling spooky.

Showers forecast as cold front moves through South Plains

The Avalanche Journal reports a cold front will sweep the Texas Panhandle and South Plains Tuesday bringing lower temperatures and showers. The front enters the Panhandle early Tuesday and pushes south across the High Plains with afternoon and evening showers. Precipitation expected .10 to .50 inch as scattered thundershowers.

City Police arrest five in weekend burglary spree

Five suspects were held this morning in car burglary and theft cases as police investigated additional weekend lootings. Three youths, aged 14 to 17, were observed prowling Baylor Street autos. 15 year old was captured by witnesses and police, other two detained by officers. A 22 and 24 year old were held in a 60 pound sugar theft from a railroad car near Kimbell Wholesale Grocery after a red light stop. Property damage and burglary reported at Glenn Bradley’s residence on Saturday night.

Albuquerque Police Seek Three Rent-A-Car Bandits

Albuquerque police trail three rent-a-car bandits after two armed robberies at local groceries. They fled the first stickup with $150 and two hours later stole between $8 000 and $10 000 from a second store, using a separate rented car each time and abandoning the vehicle near the scene.

Ax Wielder Kills Wife Children at Dutch Hostel

In Scheveningen near The Hague a man identified as Indonesian-born John Mulder, 48, killed his German-born wife and two children with an ax at a Roman Catholic hostel after his wife filed for divorce. He then killed himself by jumping from a second-floor window. a nun and another woman were wounded.

Woman Clerk Defends Store In Calif Holdup

In Torrance California a 40 year old market clerk thwarted a robbery by grabbing a 38 caliber pistol from one bandit and wounding his accomplice Episiario Pimental aged 18. Sheriff deputies reported Sophia Burris, clerk at Joe's Market, prevented the hold up and aided investigators.
