Two Plains men die in Japan crash near Ishikawa
KYO Two High Plains area men Capt John R Willis of Clovis and 2nd Lt Lawrence E Draper of Plainview were among 11 crewmen killed when their WB50 typhoon chaser crashed into a mountain east of Ishikawa Japan during a weather reconnaissance mission. The bodies of 10 airmen were recovered. The unit was the 56th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron at Yokota Air Base. Willis leaves a wife Louise and a 2 year old son John Allen. Draper is survived by his wife Beth Wiginton and his parents Mr and Mrs Lawrence E Draper.
