South Plains Cotton Crop Prediction Up Slightly

Agricultural officials in the High Plains report a firmer 25 county cotton outlook with a September joint forecast of 2,005,000 bales. The rise from 1,952,000 bales reflects higher harvested acres set at 2,503,000, while yields are pegged at 384.5 pounds per harvested acre. Poorer dryland prospects and a cool wet spell raise concerns about fiber development, with frost timing and open weather cited as crucial to final output.
