County Judge Rod Shaw criticized a city issued proposal to fund the Lubbock City-County Health Department on a 50-50 basis. The plan would require each government to contribute 158,728.50 to operate the department, with city residents paying the majority of costs under the current arrangement.

The DeLong ruby stolen ten months ago from New York’s American Museum of Natural History was recovered in Palm Beach Florida after a $25000 ransom. MacArthur and Florida State Senator Jerry Thomas were involved in the deal, arranged at the First Marine Bank in Riviera Beach. The ruby was placed in a cloth sack and then in a safety deposit box. other gems including Star of India were mentioned as part of the theft.
