A head on collision between two special interurban trains carrying model railroad fans killed nine and injured about 50 or more near Milwaukee. The Milwaukee Rapid Transit and Speedrail Co trains collided on the same track during a sight seeing trip for the Shin Model Railroad association delegates. Train leader Maeder praised his operators limited control before the crash and expressed concerns about running the special trains with regular service.

Bob Palmer of 3714 Avenue P, an employee at Hawkins Service station on the 2600 block of Thirty-fourth, suffered first and second degree burns when his clothing caught fire after finishing a car service. A passer-by smothered the flames with a blanket, and he was taken to Lubbock Memorial hospital in a Rix ambulance in fairly good condition late Saturday.
The steamship Texas Trader reported being caught in a tropical hurricane northeast of Puerto Rico with sustained winds near 137 mph and gusts to 160 mph. Coast Guard had no contact as seas rose and the vessel’s condition was unknown. A second storm near Isle of Pines south of Cuba showed 75 mph winds with gusts to 90 mph as the Atlantic hurricane intensified toward historic levels.
Citizens National Bank relocates from the Broadway and Texas avenue corner after four decades at the old site. The move to the Hemp Hill Wells building on Ave K grants about 30,000 square feet of banking space and 42,000 square feet of adjacent parking across three lots.
