Aachen Surrenders Unconditionally Ending German Resistance
Allied troops accepted the surrender of Aachen after German commander signed unconditional terms. Brigadier General and officials witnessed as 800 troops walked from destroyed buildings into American control. The event followed hard fighting as Lt. Col. Corley and Lt. Col. Derrill Daniel oversaw the capitulation and the German commander spoke to his troops from a jeep.
