Stocks Sag Despite Big Gold Play
New York stocks slipped as gold shares led traders into a speculative rally while broader markets fell. The Dow fell 4.2 to 582.69, the AP average dropped 1.30 to 207.60, with 289 advances and 673 declines among 1186 issues. Copper stocks rose modestly amid mixed electronics and large-volume activity on the NYSE and Amex.
