Statue Taken From Hotel By Two Former Officers

Two Americans Buel Wortham Jr and Craddock Gilmore Jr are held in solitary confinement in Russia on charges of aggravated theft after a bear statue was found in their belongings at a Leningrad hotel. They were arrested Oct 1 near the Finnish border as they left the Soviet Union. The U.S. Embassy urged a speedy resolution and noted possible prison terms up to six years. Wortham, 25, of North Little Rock Arkansas, and Gilmore, 24, of Montclair New Jersey, previously served as U.S. Army lieutenants in Germany.

Bus Crash Near Snyder Injures Eight on 84

A bus carrying 32 passengers collided with an embankment 194 miles south of Snyder on U S 84 injuring eight. Driver Lloyd Wolf, 38, of Lubbock reportedly lost control during a coughing spell. Passengers from Arkansas, Denver, and Camden were treated and released. Meador of Simmons Memorial Hospital was in good condition.

A slender young man found at Houston International Airport claimed amnesia and identified as Terrance D. Remature from Laubock Texas Tech.
