Inez Bears Down on Texas Gulf Coast

Hurricane Inez was forecast to hit early today along the Gulf Coast of far South Texas. The storm, which has claimed over 300 lives across the Caribbean and Florida Straits, prompted Padre Island evacuation and inland moves by Brownsville residents as they stocked up on essentials.

Houston Hobbs Men Victims Of Gunplay

A Houston sheet metal worker and a Hobbs car salesman were shot to death early Sunday in a south Lubbock apartment. Two Lubbock men were later charged with murder. Police found weapons including a shotgun and two .22 caliber revolvers at the scene. motive remains undetermined as investigators consider a possible card game in progress.

McNamara Arrives in Saigon Denying Invasion Plans

Secretary Robert McNamara arrived in Saigon for his eighth Vietnam inspection tour and denied any U S invasion plans of North Vietnam. He said objectives are limited and will assess funding and troop needs as U S forces near 316,000. He noted helicopter counts would rise though pilots are available, and extended tours may affect service length. He planned to tour troops and may not reach the demilitarized zone.
