President Johnson signed a 1.7 billion dollar extension of the War on Poverty late Saturday night from his Bethesda Naval Hospital suite. The action followed Friday gall bladder and kidney stone surgery. Doctors described his recovery as rapid and said another kidney stone remains.
The XAS Tech board approved steps to ease space shortages for student housing and classrooms within a year. They endorsed the college building amendment for the November ballot and authorized off campus private dorms for male students to be completed by Sept 1966, freeing campus housing for women.
A record high of 93 degrees was set in Lubbock as clear skies dominated the South Plains. Forecasters expect continued hot weather for five days with a slight cooling trend possible Monday. Littlefield reached 101 degrees, tying Presidio for the day's high.
