Nixon Reports Ike recovery satisfactory and fit

Five Killed In Train Collision Near Hazlehurst

A Southern Railway passenger train collided head on with a freight on a blind curve north of Hazlehurst Georgia, killing five and injuring eight to ten. The three car passenger train was en route from Atlanta to Brunswick when it struck the six car freight. engines and cars piled into a twisted mass. First responders described mangled bodies pinned beneath wreckage as rescue efforts began.
