Oil Field in Alberta Could Be North America Largest
Federal resources minister Arthur Laing says an Alberta oil field 400 miles north of Edmonton near the Northwest Territories boundary may hold 6 to 7 billion barrels. Banff Oil Co discovered it with Imperial Oil paying 8 million for 16 000 acres as the field seeks a pipeline permit. The Rainbow Lake discovery well was drilled in February with Banff holding 5 percent, Conoco Mobil Oil of Canada a half interest, and Aquitane Co. of Canada 45 percent.
