A moving winter storm spread from the central Rockies into the Panhandle and eastward toward Colorado. Dalhart and Amarillo reported measurable snow with high winds and cold temperatures. Denver received heavy snowfall and Loveland Pass was closed by snowslides. Farther east gales affected the Great Lakes and St Lawrence Valley.

Dr Clifford Bartlett Jones banker rancher and former Texas Tech president died Monday afternoon in Altura Towers at 87 after five years of illness. He led Tech from 1939 to 1944 and was regarded as West Texas No 1 citizen by colleagues. Funeral services were pending at Rix Funeral Directors. he had no direct survivors after his wife Audrey died in 1969.

Plunge Kills Woman Near Buffalo Lakes
The body of 43 year old Lubbock resident Mrs. Hilda Ruth Ware was found Monday afternoon in her car at the bottom of a 100 foot ravine off Farm Road 835, five miles southeast of Lubbock. Arlin Stafford of Slaton pronounced her dead at the scene and ordered an autopsy. The wreck was spotted by a passerby about 3 p.m. Monday. the car left the road Friday night and went into the canyon during a downhill bend near Buffalo Lakes and the Clifton B. Jones power station. The incident remains under investigation by the Department of Public Safety.
