Lubbock Woman 85 Dies in Crosbyton FM 49 Crash

An 85 year old Lubbock woman Laura Emily Anderson died in a one car accident east of Crosbyton on FM 49 about 11 20 a m Thursday She was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene Services will be at 2 p m Sunday at Spur Church of Christ burial at East Mound Cemetery in Matador Survivors include four sons six daughters two brothers a sister and many grandchildren and great grandchildren Her death raises the South Plains highway fatality total for the year to 107.

Area Church Damaged By Major Fire

The sanctuary of Midland First Presbyterian Church suffered heavy fire damage Thursday night. Officials estimate the loss in the thousands of dollars due to fire smoke and water. Campus Shut Down At Southern University Riot

An emergency was declared in East Baton Rouge Parish after two black men were killed during campus clashes as police moved to clear students from the Southern University administration building. Gun sales were halted and a curfew possible. Coroner reports say deaths from buckshot or shrapnel. one victim named Denver A. Smith, 20, of New Roads. State police and guards flooded the campus as fires damaged buildings and bombs exploded. Governor Edwards warned he would not intervene further unless students return to classes.
