Herrington Indicted Again in Crosby County Case
Former Crosby County Sheriff J T Herrington 44 was indicted by a grand jury on 31 counts of misapplication and theft by false pretext involving a liquor fund transaction from 1957 to 1958. Lawrence C. Pope, 42, a newspaper publisher and former bank president, was charged Tuesday with armed robbery in two Central Texas bank heists. He is accused of the Thornton bank theft on Nov 5 and the Schulenburg robbery on Nov 12. A statewide pickup order was issued. Pope had become publisher of the Giddings Star and the Lexington Enterprise on Oct 1 and previously led West National Bank.
