Five killed in pickup truck and Santa Fe train crash

A pickup truck collided with a Santa Fe train at a rural FM 2301 crossing near Plainview leaving Pedro Diaz 43 Soledad Diaz 35 Jobita Diaz 22 and two young children dead at the scene about 7 35 p m. Investigators say the southbound truck failed to clear the crossing no warning signals exist and the impact occurred roughly 1 5 miles east of here. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Funeral Home.

City bans minors from arcades in Lubbock

The Lubbock City Council approved a new ordinance banning minors under 17 from arcades and game rooms with a 7.50 annual tax on coin operated machines. Areas not the primary draw may still allow younger players. The measure takes effect by late November.

Slaying links tied to five suspects in multiple states

Law officers linked five members of a transient family to a string of unsolved 1971 murders in Mesquite Texas and elsewhere in Utah Colorado and California. Bridge Tragedy Victims Sought in Brunswick River

Divers searched the Brunswick River for at least six vehicles believed missing after a ship struck a drawbridge. Five bodies had been recovered and authorities feared others were dead in the wreckage amid treacherous tides and silt.
