Lubbock County records high election cost per vote

Lubbock ISD bonds $1.8 million for improvements set for Dec 5

A $1.8 million Lubbock Independent School District bond issue to fund the addition of a 15 room elementary school in southwest Lubbock library expansions and upgrades at Evans High Matthews and Thompson juniors and related costs was scheduled for a Dec 5 vote. The board trimmed an initial $4.4 million plan citing immediate needs and Nut Williams said the debt service tax would not rise because of the bond. A financial advisory contract with Underwood Neuhaus and Co was approved.

Exits Slated By Fowler Katzenbach

President Johnson accepted the resignations of Treasury Secretary Henry Fowler and Undersecretary of State Nicholas Katzenbach. Fowler plans to leave about December 20 to focus on private life, while Katzenbach said he would quit at Johnson’s pleasure and will join IBM in Armonk as vice president and general counsel.

Only 3,0480 signatures were necessary to call an election before closing time. The effort brings a local option liquor election nearer for residents of Lubbock's Precinct 6.
