Eleven Miners Found Alive in German Mine Pocket
Eleven of one hundred eight trapped miners were found alive in an air pocket after a flood in the Mathilde Mine. Officials hoped five more might survive as rescue crews drilled toward the downed men. Auto Flips Killing Boy on Farm Road Tragedy
A 12 year old Latin American boy, Jessie Riojas Riojas, was killed when the car his step brother was driving overturned on a farm road 29 miles west of here. Driver Joe Ordonez and two Riojas brothers were injured and treated at Mercy Hospital. The crash happened around 12:55 a.m. after Ordonez missed a turn and skidded onto shoulders. Adan Rodriguez, an oncoming driver, avoided a collision as the car crossed the highway. The boy was pronounced dead on arrival at Mercy Hospital. The injured were treated and released. Ordonez was later discharged.
