A cold dry Arctic air mass is forecast to push into the South Plains as a high pressure system maintains punch enough to dip temperatures to freezing and below in northern and central counties. Tuesday readings included 31 degrees in Hereford and Plains with Lubbock at 37 and Amarillo at 33. highs reached 71 and 58 respectively. Warmth returns with 60s seen in Lubbock, no precipitation expected today.

A Beaver Oklahoma woman, Mrs. Mary Jo Mardberger, was killed around 5:30 am Tuesday when her car collided with a pickup truck north of Lubbock at the US 87 and Farm Road 1284 intersection. The pickup driver, Harold Heath, 46, of Hale Center, suffered head injuries and received treatment. Justice of the Peace F H Bolen conducted an inquest. Heath was traveling north on US 87 when he turned west onto Farm Road 1294. The intersection lies 3 1/2 miles north of Lubbock at the south end of an 118.87 overpass.
