The OPA freed items from price ceilings including churns, milking machines, milk separators, ice refrigerated milk coolers, metal milk cans, and various dairy farm tools. Walnut lumber for high end furniture was released while walnut veneer remains controlled. The move expands decontrol to dozens of goods though a master list awaits final approval after consultations with other government branches.

James Hixon of Electra Texas, already under federal indictment for the August 8 Walters Oklahoma bank heist, was captured after a collision with a wagon near Antlers. He admitted identity, led officers to a car floorboard stash of cash, and confessed to the Walters robbery. He was caught after a sequence of stops, a gun grapple, and a delayed surrender. Hixon is brother to Joseph Luther Hixon, arrested earlier in Texas in connection with the same robbery. The pursuit involved Deputy Sheriff Joe Green, undertaker Lee Denton Jr, and drivers John Crain and Arch Merriott and W E Larcey.
Reconversion Director Steelman moved to abolish an OPA textile pricing order restricting finished cotton goods to 120 days advance pricing. He urged elimination of the 20 day limitation, arguing it helps mills avoid price declines. Cotton prices rose beyond $10 a bale for a second straight day. A Macon subcommittee urged immediate decontrol of all cotton textiles in a wire to the White House.

CIO President Philip Murray assailed the Republican program during a nationwide radio address. He claimed meat packers donated to the GOP to reward price protection scuttling and urged voters to oppose Hoover era policies seen as causing high prices, shortages, and insecurity. He cited 1944 donations totaling 43000 from Armour Swift Cudahy and Wilson officers.

He declined to answer AP questions, saying the topics are under discussion at the General Assembly and its committees.
