Markets steady on Black Monday anniversary push

New York stocks in a sedate advance marking the first anniversary of the 1929 panic. Volume was 3.88 million shares as steels motors nonferrous metals and drugs rose while airlines electronics and aerospace lagged. Dow fell .30 to 717.95 while S P rose .14 to 70.11 and AP average gained .1 at 273.4.
